Encino Hillside

This project represents the culmination of a ten year+ relationship with the owners, who are very invested in their mediterranean-styled landscape built to complement their home’s modern interpretation of classical architecture. In the back yard, the original pool shape was retained and an elevated spa added to be adjacent to the new outdoor masonry sofa and firepit. We moved the pool equipment down the hill to recapture valuable space by the kitchen for a covered dining area. The clean but classic bluestone paving is punctuated by concrete bands at intervals to visually separate areas and tie into the concrete pool and spa coping. Quintessential mediterranean plants include: Lavender, Ceanothus, Agave, Aloe, Westringia, Melaleuca incana, Grasses, Dymondia, Peppermint Willow, Podocarpus ‘Icee Blue’, Pittosporum ‘Silver Sheen’.
